About us

About the Wynnstay Hotel & Restaurant, Machynlleth, mid Wales

Originally a coaching inn called The Unicorn, The Wynnstay Hotel and Restaurant is a lovely old town house hotel which was rebuilt in 1780 for the Williams-Wynne family.

Today, The Wynnstay is owned and managed by a local family who take great pleasure in continuing the hotel’s centuries-long tradition of making guests and visitors feel at home.

Whether you need a place to stay, a table to host a meeting, or a space to celebrate with loved ones, we believe we’ve got everything you need and more. So, look no further for a weekend getaway, a dinner bed and breakfast treat, or a family get together with lots of fun activities nearby to enjoy.

Our rooms

We have 24 individually designed rooms. All rooms are en-suite with colour TVs and free wi-fi. A hearty Welsh breakfast comes as standard with all room bookings, and we endeavour to meet any requests you may have.

All rooms come equipped with quality coffee, Welsh Brew Teas, as well as Myddfai toiletries which smell delicious. We’re proud to partner with Myddfai, a social enterprise whose mission is to provide volunteering opportunities for vulnerable adults from the local community.

We have room options perfect for everyone: singles and larger singles, doubles and larger doubles, twins, a family room, and a room with a fabulous four poster bed.

A warm welcome to all

Croeso, as we say in Wales, is Welsh for welcome. And we will wish you a very warm welcome when you arrive here at the Wynnstay. Our friendly staff will check you in (several are Welsh speakers), take your food and drink orders and happily provide recommendations for local activities and attractions – there is plenty to do around here!

There is no dress code; we welcome muddy boots (we can provide boot covers if especially muddy), cycling attire, and ball gowns, so please dress as you feel comfortable for the occasion. As well as welcoming people with all interests, we are family and baby-friendly with highchairs and children’s menus, and we welcome well-behaved dogs.

The little things

We like to think we’ve considered the little things that can make a stay even better, so we strive to make sure the hobbies or dogs in your life are catered for too.

We have secure storage for bicycles and motorbikes on site; please enquire at reception at the time of booking or on arrival if you require this service.

Well-behaved dogs are always welcome too and can stay with you within our standard rooms (£15 per dog, per stay); just let our reception staff know at the time of booking. Upon checkout, each room is then deep cleaned to ensure it is more than acceptable for those staying without dogs, particularly those who might be allergic. Please be reassured that we do this after each pet stay.
